New Show

I've been quite busy with shows all over the country during the last few weeks. I'm certainly not complaining though as it's all been fantastic and I've met some great people along the way.

I'm currently working on a new show which will be ready at the end of the year. It will be suitable for theatres and larger venues and has an exciting theme running all the way through. I have to work on getting some funding though as it's not going to be cheap to put together but I'm sure something will come through. It involves large sets and fantastic effects and is much more of a production than a standard hypnotist show. Luckily I have a gorgeous and talented fiancee to help make these things become reality and support me in my moments of madness.

blindfolded in Lexus Posted by Hello

Blindfold Drive

When a local stage hypnotist approached Lexus Sheffield and asked to borrow a car for a publicity-seeking blindfold drive, Barry Shutt, the centre’s dealer principal was, not surprisingly, somewhat sceptical about the seriousness of the request.
Thirty-five-year-old David Bolton was, however, deadly serious. David had decided to demonstrate his skills as an elaborate plug for his forthcoming show at Sheffield’s Memorial Hall.
Not wishing to miss out on a wonderful public relations opportunity, Barry swallowed hard and agreed to provide David with a brand new IS200 valued at £22,000.
The next requirement was a large area for the ‘blind’ drive and Abbeydale Sports Club in Totley offered him their car park. And, on the Tuesday before his stage performance David climbed into the high-powered car, bravely accompanied by Jayne Brooke from the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, and set off to sense his way through a series of cones.
Margaret Laver, marketing manager at Lexus Sheffield who checked the effectiveness of David’s blindfold before witnessing the drive, said: "It was the speed at which David drove which most impressed me. I kept thinking he wasn’t going to stop in time to avoid either a cone or a spectator but he did, then came back in reverse and at the same speed!"
David said: "I was very pleased with my performance as I don’t think I clipped a single cone."
David is one of only a very few hypnotists – Paul McKenna included – who is insured for public performance of their hypnotic and illusionary skills. He once escaped from a locked water container and last year correctly predicted the Oscar winners.
David added: "I would like to thank Lexus Sheffield for their confidence in my abilities – not many companies would have been quite so trusting!"

What A Way To Make A Living

Driving back from a show with my music playing I re-play the events of the night, over and over. I wonder how I could improve the next show, what should change, did it come over the way I wanted?
As I drove home the other night, however, it was the whole business of being an entertainer that went through my mind. I was grinning to myself for having done a great show, everything just seemed to go right. I had some fantastic feedback and had tremendous fun. I was grinning and thinking to myself , "what a way to make a living!".
I do what I love and enjoy. I perform mysteries for people who want to be mystified and entertained. I get paid very well for my skills but it's not like work - it's play. How many jobs can give you that?

Making the Most of Life

"You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do. It's simple, fantasize, rehearse, then go out into the world and DO IT!" - Henry Ford

If you have a dream then you should follow it and take action TODAY to realise that dream. I try to remind myself everyday that I choose my destiny and that I decide where I am heading. Sometimes it is so easy to go along with the flow of life instead of steering it in the direction that is best for you.

If you want to be the best at anything then it takes hard work and dedication. When other people are talking about doing things, you have to be out there doing it. When other people are making excuses, you should be blazing the trail and leading the way. As far as we are aware you only get one shot at life and as stated in one of my favourite films, Cousins, "you can either make it chicken shit or chicken salad". You decide.
